Clam Fresh
Clam Fresh
Clam Fresh supports shellfish farming and aquaculture operations on Totten Inlet, where Pacific oysters and Manila clams are cultivated on tribally owned tidelands.
Formerly known as Dahman Oyster Company, Clam Fresh was purchased by the Squaxin Island Tribe in 2016. The operation expanded the Tribe’s aquaculture capabilities through shellfish farming, nursery operations, greenhouse production, and algae cultivation.
Shellfish Farming
Operations include shellfish nursery work, beach planting, grow-out management, harvesting, and coordination with Salish Seafoods for processing and shipment.
The Clam Fresh team manages oyster tidelands from planting through harvest. Oyster seed is planted on selected nursery beach lots, grown to cocktail size, and then moved to grow-out beaches until ready for market.
Aquaculture Operations
Clam Fresh includes a land-based nursery, greenhouse, and FLUPSY system that support early shellfish growth.
The nursery process helps raise shellfish larvae to a size suitable for transfer into the FLUPSY, where they continue growing until they are ready to be planted on the beach.
Clam Fresh also supports algae production, which begins in the laboratory before moving into the greenhouse. The greenhouse has capacity to support large-scale algae production for aquaculture needs.
Seafood Partnership
Clam Fresh and Salish Seafoods operate separately but work closely together.
Clam Fresh manages its shellfish beds on Totten Inlet, along with clam enhancement beds. Salish Seafoods manages its own shellfish beds and supports processing, shipment, sales, and related seafood distribution.
Together, the two businesses strengthen the Squaxin Island Tribe’s seafood operations from shellfish cultivation through market delivery.
